Robbie Williams’ “Sing When You’re Winning” album artwork was completely set at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea’s football ground.
On 28 August 2000 Robbie Williams’ album “Sing When You’re Winning” was released, with Stamford Bridge as the star of the whole artwork! The Chelsea’s football ground, whose structure had been completely renovated just a few years before, served as the perfect backdrop for all the photos and images included, with a very bizarre focus.
All the pictures portrayed Robbie Williams as a member of his hypothetical football team, seen impersonating all the players, the coach, the staff and even the fans! A lot of different moments of a football match were depicted, from some pre-match moments outside the ground, to the cup victory celebration.
Photographs were taken by Paul M. Smith and the artwork was created together with Tom Hingston, a graphic designer who had already worked on other productions for Robbie Williams’ records at the time.
The whole idea, reflecting the love of Robbie Williams for football, still looks a bit alienating but quite funny as well and certainly very unique. Stamford Bridge is very well represented too, with its peculiar structure in blue that plays a perfect part in relation to the blue kit worn by the RW team.
